Fairsy is a mobile app that helps friends split shared expenses. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how we protect it.
Email address — Used for account creation, sign-in, and sending you magic link codes. We do not use your email for marketing.
Display name — Shown to other group members so they know who added an expense.
Expense data — Descriptions, amounts, currencies, and how expenses are split. This is core to how the app works.
Group data — Group names, membership lists, and settlement records.
Device identifier — A randomly generated UUID stored on your device. Used to maintain your session before you create an account (ghost profile). This is not your hardware ID and cannot identify your physical device.
App usage data — We track events like "expense created" and "group joined" to understand how the app is used and to improve it. This data is linked to your account but is never shared or sold.
Crash reports — If the app crashes, we collect technical details (device model, OS version, stack trace) to fix bugs. This is sent to Sentry, our crash reporting provider. No personal data is included in crash reports.
We do not collect your contacts, location, photos, browsing history, or any biometric data. We do not access your camera or microphone.
We use your data only to provide and improve the Fairsy app:
• Splitting expenses and calculating balances between group members
• Sending sign-in codes and settlement notifications
• Diagnosing crashes and performance issues
• Understanding app usage patterns to improve the experience
We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not use your data to build advertising profiles.
Fairsy uses the following third-party services:
Firebase Authentication (Google) — Handles sign-in with Google, Apple, and email. Firebase Privacy Policy
Sentry — Crash reporting and performance monitoring. No personal data is sent. Sentry Privacy Policy
SendGrid (Twilio) — Sends transactional emails (sign-in codes, settlement confirmations). Twilio Privacy Policy
Railway — Hosts our backend servers and database in secure data centers. Railway Privacy Policy
Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted on Railway. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS). Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure storage (iOS Keychain).
We use rate limiting, input validation, and access controls to protect against unauthorized access.
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your personal information (email, name) is anonymized immediately. Financial records (expenses, settlements) are retained for 30 days so other group members can still see their history, then permanently deleted.
You can:
• Access your data — All your expenses, groups, and settlements are visible in the app
• Correct your data — Edit your profile information in Settings
• Delete your data — Delete your account in Settings → Account → Delete Account
• Export your data — Contact us and we will provide your data in a standard format
Fairsy is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, please contact us at support@fairsy.app and we will delete it immediately.
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or via email. The "last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
